Alternate Level Set Evolutions With Controlled Switch for Tooth Segmentation

CBCT images have been widely used in digital orthodontics. In images, there are some tooth boundaries of blurriness and disappearance, the teeth intensity inhomogeneity. order to identify these segment teeth, this paper develops an approach alternate level set evolutions with controlled switch via slice-by-slice segmentation: user selects a voxel inside initialize small circle encircling voxel, curve is automatically expanded until surface formed. each slice, by two evolutions: first evolution handles inhomogeneity second solves boundary disappearance teeth. Experiments showed that proposed method successfully segmented 12 datasets 356 outperformed geodesic active contour popular state-of-the-art method.
